Beautiful Hair right now!

Tricks to keeping your hair looking glossy , full and beautiful no matter how old you are!:)

  • 20's - Your hair looks nice and full because the cuticle layers are the thickest they will ever be. So now is the time to experiment with your hair because the strands show less damage. Your hair is able to with stand curling irons and flat irons . Make sure that you use a heat protectant and always keep the iron moving through your hair.

30's Your hair is growing very fast because of  your estrogen levels which stimulate hairs to grow. You are probably gonna be looking for products to help control those wild unruly baby hairs around your hairline and in your crown area. Hairspray is gonna be your best friend if you have fine hair . You can spray some on a toothbrush and brush those hairs into place. If your hair is thick ,you will want to use a pomade or paste to control.-just simply apply it in the palm of your hands or finger tips and smooth it over.
  • 40's Your hormones have stabilized so you will produce less oils.now you can cut back on the shampooing. At this time your hair will really benefit from oil treatments. It would be good for you to use an hot oil treatment once or twice a week. For fine hair- apply oil at night , work it in well and come through. You can use a hot towel or shower cap and just shampoo in the morning. For thick hair - use it as a shine booster , dap in an amount as needed and style as normal.
50's There has been changes in your outer cuticle layer so your hair is easy to work with now! Its gonna blowout and curl easy. For easy on the go hair , steam rollers are gonna do it for you. Create volume with a nice set of steam rollers, make sure you are over directing the roller and bringing it back to the base of the section to achieve volume. For smooth volume -use large rollersand big sections, for curly volume -use medium rollers and smaller sections.
60's Your outer cuticle layer is finer now. Hair feels more softer but it is also more fragile...take care and be gentle. Your gonna look for a glaze to coat that outer layer to look fuller and shinier. You can go into the salon for a glaze and in between salon visits ,you can apply one at home . For straight hair - work it in dry and leave in for five mins then rinse. For curly hair - condition and rinse ,then apply glaze, comb through the curls , leave in for five mins and rinse.

*Now you have it! keep your hair beautiful:) All textures are different and require different approaches..so when maintaining your healthy hair ...always do research and get advice from your stylist!

Maintaining healthy hair

Healthy hair is everybody's desire. It gives the greatest of looks adding to the confidence of a person, while also giving a certain definition to the features of every person. Taking care of your hair needs some extra care. Here are few tips that help you.

Natural hair care through Exercise

Well, you are not the only one who will be surprised if asked to give your body simple exercises for healthy hair. As already mentioned above, hair generally reflects your health. Only a healthy body can have healthy hair. So we suggest you to do regular exercise to get healthy hair.

Exercises need not be very strenuous nor do they need to include lifting weights with your hair. All you will need is a jog or walk for around 20 minutes per day followed by some stretching exercises to keep your body fit and fine. Not only these exercises increase the flexibility in your body, they make sure that your body performs its functions properly.

Diet

Though DIET for your hair needs to be mentioned at the top of the list, here exercise is given the top priority because you can do it early in the morning. However diet is as important as exercise. People need to understand that diet and exercise are a combination that effects the growth of healthy hair.

Take a balanced-diet whenever you take food. A Balanced diet is a diet that contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals apart from proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

Almost 97% of the hair is made of something called keratin, which is mainly a protein. Hence protein is an important part of growing healthy hair. Protein food, especially with shampoos and other hair products having amino proteins, gives strength to your hair.

Water is such an important part of our life that we almost ignore it or take it for granted. Hair has and needs certain moisture in the scalp for it to grow healthily. Drink at least 10 glasses of water per day. You will not only find healthy hair, you will find improved skin texture too.

If you have oily hair try avoiding fatty foods.

Some other general tips for healthy hair :

■KNOW THY HAIR is the key factor to take care of your hair. This has been told and mentioned in every other article on this site. Knowing the behavior of your hair helps a lot in taking care of it.

■Get regular oil massage. Oil massage soothes your hair and scalp, while making the skin on your head active. Massages help in relieving all kinds of pressures, and make the body parts function properly again.

■Choose all hair products with great care. With the dawn of too much of information available on various websites, the confusion of a general reader has only increased. But with some time and patience, it will always be possible to differentiate a fake product and a product that works.

■Understand that it is normal to loose 50-100 hair regularly. You need not panic at the very first sight of hair going down your bathroom drain. Take time to analyze if you are really losing hair

■A product that has worked for your sibling or a friend need not work for you. Every person is different from the other, hence find a product that works for you and you only.

■One easy way for Natural Hair Care - do not comb wet hair..

■Do not use strong dryers or blowers.

■Do not leave massaged oil on your head for more than 30 min.

■Do not tie your hair for too long. Leave them freely for as long as possible. However take care that you keep a balance between letting them loose and tying them up.

■For women, it is advised not to try styles that need their hair to be tied for longer periods of time.

Tips for healthy hair

Steer clear of plastic-bristle brushes. "The proper bristles are key," says stylist Edward Tricomi of the Warren-Tricomi Salon in New York City. "A combination of natural boar bristles on either a round or flat brush are best for dry hair, while soft, rubber-toothed wide-paneled brushes are best for damp hair." Our favorite brushes include the Mason Pearson Boar Bristle brush ($78.50; zitomer.com) and Aveda's Wooden Paddle Brush ($17; aveda.com).

Brush before shampooing. A few gentle strokes on dry hair will help remove product buildup and scalp flakes, as well as stimulate the scalp and promote blood flow (which delivers nutrients like oxygen) to hair
 follicles.

Trim your troubles. As the ends of your hair get older and damaged by rough handling, they become prone to splitting, Nelson says. Get regular trims, at least 1/2 inch every four to eight weeks. "Hair grows (on average) half an inch per month, so trim to maintain healthy ends," says stylist Stephen Knoll of the Stephen Knoll Salon in New York
Deep condition once every two weeks. "These treatments penetrate the hair shaft and strengthen strands," says Patrick, who adds that using heat (from a blow-dryer) can intensify deep conditioning, as the heat causes the cuticle to open and the ingredients to penetrate.

Give textured or relaxed hair a break. African-American hair tends to be coarse due to a lack of natural oils (more so if chemically processed), says New York-based celebrity hairstylist Ellin Lavar. Lavar suggests opting for gentle color choices like semipermanent or vegetable color. Spacing processing treatments at least two weeks apart, with weekly conditioning treatments in between for shine maintenance, helps.
